Rick Owens AW25: Ceremony, Sculpture, Shadow
Topic:
Fashion
Year:
25 March 2025
In the scorched arena of Paris Fashion Week, Rick Owens staged a procession of silhouettes that felt less like a show and more like a summoning. AW25 wasn’t about spectacle — it was about ritual. A slow burn of smoke, sound, and sculptural force.
Rituals in Brutal Elegance
The silhouettes were monumental, softened only by their movement. Hooded goddesses emerged from clouds of incense, draped in leather and organza like relics from a future myth. It was dystopian, yes, but also divine. Owens’s world continues to hover at the edge of collapse — but here, collapse is beautiful.
Volumes clashed and coiled — rigid shoulder crescents, padded hips, bare torsos peeking out from beneath architectural folds. It was sensuality on Owens’s terms: severe, unyielding, almost sacred.
Smoke, Flesh, and Sonic Gravity
The show opened with a doom-metal drone that reverberated through the Palais de Tokyo. It felt physical, like gravity pressing on the chest. That tension between violence and serenity is Owens’s signature — the sound, the scent, the silhouettes all converging into something like spiritual warfare.
But what lingers most is the discipline. Nothing is accidental. Every plume of smoke, every inch of exposed skin, every sculpted shoulder — all in service of a singular, unapologetic vision.
Rick Owens isn’t chasing relevance. He’s building temples.
